So god created the horse.

Bailey Performance Horses is located in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, just outside of Pendleton & Pilot Rock, Oregon. The views are vast, and the room to roam is plenty, and ideally suited to our philosophy of training a well-rounded horse - You should be able to not only show a horse, but use them. With indoor and outdoor arenas, cattle to work, and acre upon acre to ride on, we are well suited to develop a young horse's mind or breathe new life into an aged one.

Bailey Performance Horses is located on the home ranch of Anderson Land & Livestock, nestled at the base of the Blue Mountains near Pilot Rock, 20 miles southeast of Pendleton, Oregon. Justin & Shana Bailey live full time with their family on the ranch started by Shana's grandfather, Red Anderson, in the early '40s running wild horses.

Justin Bailey

Through the irreplaceable value of putting in the long days, combined with patience, understanding, and honesty, Justin Bailey had dedicated his life to earning the trust of man and horse. Specializing in preparing the young horse for performance horse careers, Justin believes in the power of building a colt slowly and consistently. His philosophy of training the mind and the body while creating a positive relationship between horse and rider ultimately strengthens the confidence for each horse to reach its greatest potential. After all, it’s just the beginning of the journey.

Justin’s career began with competitive rodeo at the Junior, High School, and College levels. His primary focus was on Team Roping, although he also competed in the Saddle Bronc and Calf Roping events. After finishing college with Equine Science and Business degrees, he began training horses full-time. Under the experienced guidance of Dan Roeser, Justin quickly became successful showing cow horses in the NRCHA and AQHA. His understanding of horsemanship and balanced approach to training has made Bailey Performance Horses successful in the art of preparing these equine athletes for the most celebrated tradition of the western way of life.

Three generations, wild horses, cows, bulls, and horse training.

Shana's father, Terry Anderson, returned home to the ranch after attending college and serving in the Army with the goal to breed and raise bulls that would thrive in all environments, even the roughest cow country around. He chose to focus his efforts on building the ultimate composite-breeding program. After all, he didn't want these bulls to just survive in real ranching environments but to thrive while producing offspring that benefited from superior growth.

"We built our program in the toughest times the cattle industry has seen in the past 50 years. You don't ever forget those times. We continue to run this operation with the same degree of frugalness and attention to detail as we did when breaking even was a major accomplishment. The most important thing to remember is never losing sight of your long-term goal."

Over the years, the Andersons have focused on engineering a bull program with a foundation built from integrity, trust, and hard work. They continually put the needs of their customers first and have designed their operations to meet those needs.

In 2010, Justin and Shana moved back to the summer headquarters of the home ranch, excited to continue on the legacy of hard work, integrity, and compassion for the land & animals with the addition of Bailey Performance Horses.

History of the Ranch

Our idea of paradise.  Ranch life in the Blue Mountains of Eastern Oregon.

Justin + Shana Bailey

"Justin came highly recommended! He has taken the colt and made him confident, kind, and well-mannered. The little wild colt I dropped off has turned into a very nice stud colt and I can't wait to see what he can become. I have enjoyed Justin very much, he is a wealth of knowledge and encourages the horse's success through his knowledge of their breeding and the skills they possess. "
